Easter is an important time for Christians and others as we gather together with our families and friends and reflect on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It’s a time to remember that we can overcome challenges and hard times because of the sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

We have seen a lot of changes in our local communities and a lot of challenges in our country as we debate and discuss what the best future is for Britain.

We have more division and resentment than ever before, as more and more people feel marginalised, or ignored, but there still is a growing sense of people coming together and uniting behind a new bright future for our country.

We live in a great country with a proud history and a bright future. As we embrace the new opportunities that will come from leaving the European Union and going out into the world, we can continue to be a beacon of freedom and liberty.

Easter is a good time to reflect on the values that we have in common; compassion, community and citizenship.

We celebrate the contributions made by Christians all over the country and indeed around the world, in memory of their master and example Jesus Christ.

Despite increasing restrictions on Christianity in this country, we should be confident about the role that Christianity has to play.

We need to treasure our strong tradition of religious tolerance and freedom of speech and do what we can to protect our right to worship.

This Easter let’s come together and build a bright future for our country.

I wish you all a very Happy Easter.
