Under rule 130 of the European Parliament I have submitted the following priority question for written answer to the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs
and Security Policy:
The Ukrainian Parliament has voted in favour of sanctions against various news broadcasters, such
as NewsOne TV and 112, which may now be forced to terminate their activities. Freedom of
expression and freedom of the media are fundamental commitments of the Ukraine under the terms
of the Association Agreement signed with the EU. How will the EU ensure that there is freedom of the
press in the Ukraine and that the terms of the Association Agreement are honoured?
I am entitled to receive an answer within three weeks of submission. Following this question I hope to bring forward a resolution to the European Parliament to initiate a debate on the current state of the freedom of the press in the Ukraine.

Not many politician presenting themselves as ‘democrats’ take up this issue (even if they have a very good record on such topics). Clearly, the question is to the point. The likely answer from the commanding heights of the Eu will reveal their indifference to serious violations of human rights as defined in the EUCHR when it does suit their imperialist agenda of expanding the EU by all means available like the US-EU-orchestrated coup in Kiev 2014.
Noteworthy, far worse violations of human rights are the norm under the post-coup semi-fascist government in Ukraine. I recommend reading Prof Stephen F Cohen from NYU/Princeton about the topic. Remember the Lisbon Treaty obliges all EU member states to cooperate on defense procurement and finally joining NATO. Thinking this through: If Ukraine had already joined NATO Ukraine claiming to be under siege form Russia would potentially mandate all EU members to take part in war against nuclear-armed Russia!
